Initial Assessment - £120
The assessment session takes place in your home. A typical assessment session will take 60-90 minutes and will entail the use of informal or formal assessment measures to gain a picture of your child's communicative strengths and weaknesses. For younger children, toys and pictures are often used to assess communication skills and for older children, picture book based assessments are typically used. You will receive a speech and language therapy summary report with therapy targets, where appropriate. This will be provided via email within 3 days after the session and is included within the initial assessment fee.
Therapy Session - £60
If therapy sessions with a therapist are needed, these can be arranged to commence shortly after the initial assessment. The fee includes resources/home practise activities where required. A typical session would last approximately 45 minutes with additional time (up to 15 minutes) at the end for any feedback. Sessions can take place in the home, at your child’s nursery or in their school on prior agreement with the educational setting. The following delivery options are typically recommended, with flexibility within each option to allow for family life and budgets:
a block of weekly therapy sessions - number of recommended sessions per block is based on the needs of the child and this can range from 2-8 sessions.
fortnightly sessions - a good model for those children who may have longer term communication needs.
A one-off session at home/school/nursery in order to demonstrate strategies or advice
A shorter therapy session (of 20 minutes) for a reduced fee - for those children who cannot focus for 45 minutes. This is typically offered for preschool children who may have reduced attention skills.
Review Assessment or Screening Assessment - £60
Suitable for those children who may have been assessed by a Speech and Language Therapist within the past 6 months and who are wanting to start therapy. An assessment is still vital before Speech Therapy for Children can deliver therapy, but as the assessment will be a screening, for goal setting purposes, it will be offered at a reduced fee.
